Hemorrhoids can make even the easiest things hard to bear. But you are not alone: 3 out of 4 people develop hemorrhoids at some point in their lives. Millions of Americans seek medical help for their hemorrhoid symptoms annually. Too many remain quiet, too embarrassed to seek help, managing symptoms on their own.
Types and Grades of Hemorrhoids
Veins can swell inside the anal canal to form internal
hemorrhoids. Or they
can swell near the opening of the anus to form external
hemorrhoids. You
can have both types at the same time. The symptoms and
treatment depend on which type you have. Some symptoms include pain, bleeding, cracking, leakage, itching and swelling. Some hemorrhoids can feel like you’re sitting on a sensitive bump or just a general feeling of uncomfortable pressure in your bottom.
All hemorrhoids are evaluated and graded on their severity by your
physician.
● Grade I hemorrhoids
project into the anal canal and often bleed but do not prolapse.
●
Grade II hemorrhoids may protrude beyond
the anus with straining but go back in on their own when you stop
straining.
● Grade III hemorrhoids protrude on their own
or with straining, and require you to "tuck them back in" to find
relief.
● Grade IV hemorrhoids chronically prolapse
and cannot be "tucked back in". They usually have both internal
and external
symptoms and may cause a large clot called acute thrombosis.
